Dodging Dead Ends
It is far too easy in the grand sea of thinking to reach a false conclusion.
To assert something as immutable and unchanging is a dangerous game that many people play on a daily basis.
“She’ll always be that way, she’ll never change.”
“I can’t do it. It’s too late for me.”
“I’m too old.”
“I’m too stupid.”
“It never works out for me.”
These assertions are horrific for two reasons:
They are cruel. To yourself, to others, whomever it may be.
They are affirming. You will make the reality you speak, because you are reinforcing an unhealthy behavior (or series of behaviors) in your mind.
We, the scurrying rats in the metropolitan sprawl of life, must dodge dead ends. We must make sure each street and alley we crawl through continues and allows us the space to run.
If we build our own walls to become our own jailers, we can never accomplish anything, nor will we see the accomplishments in others. By painting a caricature for ourselves or others, we are doing the ultimate disservice. We are choking progress, both spiritual and material.
Don’t prematurely write the ending to the story. It’s not yours to write— it will write itself when it is time.
Until next time,
Eli
